A Farewell to Teaching

I'm writing this post to inform everyone that reads this (who knows how many) that at the end of this school year I will be making a career change.  I will be starting down the career path to becoming an actuary, which is a unique opportunity that I am extremely excited about.

I'd like to thank anyone that has taken the time to read this blog for allowing me to share some ideas about education that are unique.  I've continued to blog this year due to the amazing conversations that I've had with colleagues nation wide.  Most of you I've never met face to face, but I enjoyed having an audience to bounce some AP Stat and just general education reform ideas off of.  This is something I would not have done with anybody but my personal learning network on the internet.  Again, thank you.

Feel free to use any of my ideas in any capacity that you wish.  No need to be proprietary, as I'm all about moving education forward.  I encourage you to consult with and contribute to the class wiki that we've started this year, that will hopefully evolve into an online statistics resource for any and every statistics student that would be in need.

The Class Wiki: http://statknowledge.wikispaces.com

Will the blog continue?  Probably.  Just in a much different capacity and probably be more math nerd related than anything.  Again, to my PLN, thank you so much for contributing so much to my professional development.

Mr. C,
I am sorry to read this post. I wish you great success in your new career and will stay subscribed to read the continued math nerd saga.
I know I will be using your ideas in my AP Stats class. You definitely have had an impact on others beyond your classroom!

Thank you for the kind words! It's been great collaborating with you, and if you ever want a guest speaker to Skype with, I hope I can help you out. You've been a great part of my PLN. Enjoy teaching AP Stat, it's probably the best high school course ever.

Jason,
You will be missed in education! Your innovative ideas and fearless risk taking in the digital classroom is to be commended! Best of luck to you and I will certainly keep reading to see if in fact I can learn something nerdy about Math! :)

I am very interested to see how your transition goes from teacher to actuary. I am also an AP Stats teacher who is interested in the actuary field. I passed the first exam and plan on studying for the second one this Summer. I love teaching, but I am intrigued by actuarial science. Have you taken any exams? Perhaps we can start an email correspondence!

Good luck Jason. I'm happy for you and wish you luck. I'm glad you'll be staying connected and so we can bug you for help.

@KKoz - Thank you for enabling and encouraging me to push the envelope. Keep on reading for some more odd math ideas/information :)

@Zach - I have passed the first two exams P/1 and FM/2. P was relatively easy as I am a stat teacher and familiar with probability distributions. FM is an exam that I definitely put 300 hours of study time in to. I'd love to set up some e-mail correspondence. Are you on Twitter?

@Jason - Thanks for the well wishes. I plan on being available via Twitter and this blog to continue some good discussion.
